To experience bliss you must exert effort. Step outside your door. Try something new. Break an old habit. Take a risk on a relationship. Feel discomfort. 
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But we are tired creatures. Prone to resort to escapism, not realizing that sometimes true rest is not numb stillness. But active creation.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
That our constant streams of binge watching Netflix and staying within our comfort zone is the very thing draining our energy.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
That we must do the very risky and exhausting thing of putting ourself out there to feel truly refreshed.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Because if we don’t stand out in the cold, we miss out on the beauty of winter. All while wondering why we feel so hopeless in our dark corners entertained by numbness.
Ever since moving to #NYC, architecture has brough Ever since moving to #NYC, architecture has brought me so much joy and I’m always looking for unique or historic buildings.

I grew up believing that serving God meant I was r I grew up believing that serving God meant I was responsible for doing everything in my power to avoid ruining other people’s day. 😩

Happiness, love, “servanthood”, and all of these positive emotions were the Christian emotions.✝️
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Discomfort, sadness, anger, were “sinful” emotions and if I caused others to feel this (or felt it myself) than I had done something wrong. I was supposed to be a light and make others lives better, right? 🤦🏼‍♀️
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But being nice does not create healing. Being nice compromises boundaries. Being nice can create physically and mentally harmful situations. Being an advocate means not being nice sometimes. ✊🏼
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And sometimes being nice is one of the most selfish things you can do.

I discovered this poem when I was a teenager and i I discovered this poem when I was a teenager and it spoke to my soul.🥰

Once I began to realize that I’m a #HighlySensitivePerson, this poem only seemed more relevant to my life.

Sharing today for all the #HSPs out there to remind you that your feelings are a superpower. You are the heroes, advocates, artists, and feelers of the world. And we need you.

Because you create galaxies. 🌌

Made this beauty this afternoon and it was the perfect comfort snack for a cold winter day. ❄️

I personally try to reduce my intake of gluten, dairy, and meat and eat lots of plant based foods for my mental health and longevity goals. 👵🏼

After counting macros and eating a high protein, low carb diet for quite some time, shifting my food goals from FITNESS to HEALTH has given me so much more freedom and delight in what I eat. ☺️

I’m sure I’ll have seasons where I need to eat for specific gym goals, but for now I’m going to keep enjoying all my wellness recipes and focus on nutrients > calories & daily movement. 🖤 (Although this winter weather has me in sloth 🦥 mode 😂)
